In March of 2020 as Covid fear swept the country, Pioneer Square, Seattle began closing down. The Squarea already had a sizeable homeless population and crime rates to match. The city had stopped enforcing basic laws like vandalism and shoplifting so when businesses learned they were going to have close down indefinitely many did the most sensible thing they could think of which was to board up and go home. Others tries to tough it out and paid the price.
