One development in Pioneer Square that hasn’t “lost steam” is Urban Villages’ RailSpur project. Consisting of three different buildings between Jackson and King Streets, the project is billed as a “micro-district”, or community within a community. Once complete the complex will be a mix of residential, retail, dining and entertainment. It will take years to complete but rather than make us wait they focused on delivering the things a small urban community needs most; Coffee, Beer, and Bike Repair.
This brings us to Hoot Beerdega, the Jackson Street side of what is known as The Fisher Building. Hoot Beerdega, as the name suggests, is a bodega specializing in “locally sourced beer, wine and fine foods”. Basically everything you need!
The selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages is deep, with enough Pilsners and Lagers to offset the many IPA’s you’d expect. So far my go-to has been Liquid Death, a water so hard it comes with its own warning label! If you’ve got a thirst on, Hoot’s got something to quench it for you. But there’s more.
The slogan is “Cold Beer, Hot Dogs” so it’d be remiss to not mention that second bit. If you’re hungry you can’t go wrong with one of the Hot Dogs they offer, my favorite being the Heard Dog, which comes covered in relish and poppy seeds. It’s so lip smacking good I can’t get enough of them.
