SEATTLE, WA – The Pioneer Square Summer Market & Music Festival is proud to announce a special tribute to Seattle’s rich heritage with a revival of the iconic Golden Potlatch festival. This unique event will take place on Saturday, June 10th, 2023, in Pioneer Square, and will transport attendees back in time to experience the joy and splendor of the historic Golden Potlatch.
The Golden Potlatch, a beloved festival that took place in Seattle from 1911 to 1914 and 1934 to 1941, holds a special place in the city’s history. This year, we are excited to bring back the spirit of the Golden Potlatch and create an immersive experience that celebrates Seattle’s past while embracing the present.
One of the highlights of the Golden Potlatch revival is the Coloring Contest for all ages. Participants can showcase their artistic skills by coloring a specially designed Golden Potlatch illustration. Prizes will be awarded to winners in different age categories, adding a touch of friendly competition to the festivities.
Another exciting activity is the “Build Your Own Smith Tower” event. Participants will have the opportunity to construct a remarkable 20-inch-tall paper model of the iconic Smith Tower, a symbol of Seattle’s architectural heritage. Engage your creativity and architectural prowess as you assemble this impressive structure.
And let’s not forget our beloved furry friends! The “Pooch Parade and Puppy Pageant” is a delightful event where dogs can dress up in their finest costumes and strut their stuff. From adorable outfits to hilarious accessories, this event promises plenty of laughter and unforgettable moments.
“The revival of the Golden Potlatch is an homage to Seattle’s history and a celebration of the vibrant community that continues to thrive in Pioneer Square,” said Lloyd Gregory, event coordinator. “We invite everyone to join us for a day filled with family-friendly fun, entertainment, and a journey back in time.”
The Pioneer Square Summer Market & Music Festival is dedicated to preserving Seattle’s heritage and fostering a sense of community. This revival of the Golden Potlatch exemplifies our commitment to embracing the past while building a brighter future.
